The Difference Between PVC And ABS
Date:2019-07-24 14:29:18
We have already introduced many times what PVC is. Now let's see about ABS.
Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) is a common thermoplastic polymer.
The most important mechanical properties of ABS are impact resistance and toughness. A variety of modifications can be made to improve impact resistance, toughness, and heat resistance.
ABS's light weight and ability to be injection molded and extruded make it useful in manufacturing products such as drain-waste-vent (DWV) pipe systems, musical instruments (recorders, plastic clarinets, and piano movements), golf club heads (because of its good shock absorbance), automotive trim components, automotive bumper bars, medical devices for blood access, enclosures for electrical and electronic assemblies, protective headgear, whitewater canoes, buffer edging for furniture and joinery panels, luggage and protective carrying cases, small kitchen appliances, and toys, including Lego and Kre-O bricks.Household and consumer goods comprise the major applications of ABS.Keyboard keycaps are commonly made out of ABS.
what is the difference between it and PVC?
1. Chemical name and composition are different
PVC material, chemical industry refers to the compound polyvinyl chloride. English name polyvinyl chlorid, English abbreviation PVC; ABS plastic is a ternary copolymer of acrylonitrile (A), butadiene (B), styrene (S) three monomers, A for acrylonitrile, B for butadiene , S stands for styrene. The relative contents of the three monomers can be arbitrarily changed to prepare various resins.
2, different characteristics
PVC materials are non-flammable, high strength, weather resistant and excellent geometric stability. However, it can be strongly oxidized by concentrated oxyacids such as concentrated sulfuric acid, and it has strong resistance to reducing agents and strong acids. Nitric acid is corroded and is not suitable for use in contact with aromatic hydrocarbons, chlorinated hydrocarbons.
ABS material has good low temperature impact resistance. Dimensional stability, electrical properties, abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, dyeability, finished product processing and mechanical processing are better. ABS resins are water-resistant, inorganic, alkali and acid, insoluble in most alcohols and hydrocarbon solvents, and readily soluble in aldehydes, ketones, esters and certain chlorinated hydrocarbons. ABS resin has low heat distortion temperature and is flammable and has poor heat resistance.
3, different uses
ABS materials have been widely used in manufacturing industries and chemicals such as machinery, electrical, textile, automotive, aircraft, and shipbuilding;
PVC materials are used for plates, pipes, soles, toys, doors and windows, wire sheaths, stationery, etc. It is a polymer material that uses a chlorine atom to replace one hydrogen atom in polyethylene.
4,cost
A 2in x 2ft ABS pipe costs $5.79 on Amazon.com.
A 1in x 2ft PVC plain end pipe costs $9.99 on Amazon.com.
